Cllr. Peter Holmes has raised why money set aside for transport improvements cannot be used to bring about much needed work to a vital junction on the A26, Tonbridge Road. The S106 money from one the Peafields development in Barming had been ring-fenced for providing a peak-time bus service. However, Cllr. Holmes has been joined by other local representatives in calling for it to be reallocated to fund much needed junction improvements that would make a real different to traffic congestion, saying, "The bus is not wanted nor needed and my experience of these schemes is that once the money ends, so usually does the bus service."
Cllr. Holmes is backed by Kent County Cllr, Tom Cannon, who agrees that the bus service would be a waste of vital investment funds, stating, "Strategic investment in infrastructure in Maidstone is far more important than a bus route that nobody wants. We need to keep Maidstone moving."
