David has lived in and around Maidstone since the age of 3. Having attended local schools and then Oakwood Park Grammar School he joined his father in the early 80s and they founded and expanded a business principally operating in the veterinary medical equipment sector.
Today, David is Chairman of the Burtons Group of Companies employing c.130 staff. David is passionate about manufacturing in the UK, with Burtons products and services being exported worldwide.
Around 2005, driven by a self-acknowledgement that it was disingenuous to have strong views on local matters without being willing to stand up and be put to the test, he joined his local Parish Council and soon after became Chairman. In 2010, he was elected to Maidstone Borough Council and was re-elected in May 2022.
In his spare time, David looks after a small flock of Shetland sheep, geese, ducks and chickens and keeps bees. The recent addition of two new puppies Winston and Clementine are proving a popular addition to the Burton household.
Since May 2021, David has been Leader of Maidstone Borough Council Conservative Group and Leader of Maidstone Borough Council.
